Machine Learning (ML) is a subset of Artificial Intelligence (AI). With Machine Learning, computers are programmed to learn to do something they are not programmed to do that is, they learn by discovering patterns and insights from data previously collected and draw analysis to learn. In general, there are two types of learning, supervised and unsupervised. The process of learning begins with observations or data, such as examples, direct experience, or instruction, in order to look for patterns in data and make better decisions in the future based on the examples that we provide. The primary aim is to allow the AI to learn automatically without human intervention.
The types of learning mechanisms are: Supervised machine learning algorithms can apply what has been learned in the past to new data using labeled examples to predict future events. While unsupervised machine learning algorithms are used when the information used to train is neither classified nor labeled. Semi-supervised machine learning algorithms fall somewhere in between supervised and unsupervised learning since they use both labeled and unlabeled data for training. Reinforcement machine learning algorithms are a learning method that interacts with its environment by producing actions and discovers errors or rewards.
Professional use of Machine Learning applications is for data analytics, data mining and pattern recognition. On the consumer end, Machine Learning powers web search results, real-time ads, and network intrusion detection.
Machine learning enables quick analysis of massive quantities of data. ML generally delivers faster, more accurate results in order to identify profitable opportunities or dangerous risks. However, additional time and resources may be required to train them properly. Combining machine learning with AI and cognitive technologies can make it even more effective in processing large volumes of information.
