Sheetal began her career as a trainee electrical engineer back in 1994. As her career progressed, she exposure herself to different learnings and gained practical knowledge.
In 2002, when she was on maternity leave, she was asked to work as a consultant for a blood bank project. Torn between her passion and babe, she mulled denying the proposal outright. Her mind had split into two as she wanted to be an entrepreneur and on the other side, there was a good opportunity. After consulting closed ones, she was left dismayed because people said that starting a career as a consultant in the Male-dominated construction industry was not her cup of tea being a woman. Only her husband – Mandar Bhilkar, supported her decision.
That marked the changing point in her life as she believed anything a man can do, a woman can do! Even what a man can’t do.
Urja Building Services Consultants saw the light of the day. Mandar joined the firm and the duo never had to look back.

Setting Higher Benchmark
Under Sheetal’s leadership, UBSC has worked on more than 450 projects, designed more than 90 million sq. ft. The largest project designed by UBSC is over 4 million sq. ft. It has worked as MEP consultants on large townships, hospitals, data centers, commercial buildings, hotels, and infra projects all across India.
“When Walmart entered India Walmart prototype cash and carry outlet was designed by UBSC. Indian Defense’s Rowing channel at Pune, Haj Bhavan, Rabindra Bhavan & Convenction Centre for ZUDCO at Ranchi. Currently UBSC is working on GST Bhavan project for MSRDCL & Dwarka tunnel project in Delhi apart from many projects with corporates like K.Raheja Corp, Mahindra Lifespaces, TRIL, etc.,” states Sheetal.

A Beacon of Inspiration for all Women across the
Conferred with Women Super Achiever Award as 7th world woman leadership congress, Sheetal Bhilkar – Managing Director of UBSC, is setting an example for women in the country.
To inspire more women to join the male-dominated construction industry, Sheetal conceptualized The Real Woman Awards. This year, on the occasion of International Woman’s Day, 26 women from Mumbai were honored by this award. These 26 women have performed extraordinarily in their fields and hence, such outstanding awards were bestowed upon them.
“The real woman awards created quite a buzz as the first-time woman from this industry were recognized and given the limelight. Through such events, we will inspire more women to join this industry which has a lot of career opportunities for them. Industry leaders who attended this function expressed a willingness to support more women in their respective areas. After the event Community of the woman in the construction industry was created by name of `The Real Woman’,” asserts Sheetal.
